yelled a voice from the front of the small, open lifeboat, as another wave rolled over the bow.  How much more of this could they take?  Had anyone heard their distress calls before the Alyysa, the 142 foot schooner they were sailing to Bermuda to deliver to it's new owner slowly slid under the waves after strking a whale?

No., not another, said Judith, the striking 25 year old chef who took the job wanting a bit of adventure.  Well, she thought, you can't say this is not an adventure, as she bailed water out of the small boat that her life and the lives of the crew depended on.

"Stop yammerin' about bigger boats and inflate the life raft," Captain Ahab said. Ishmael, out of breath from the turbulence and turning slightly green with seasickness, could not find the life raft. Clearly, this was not a good day.

I hope this turns out better than the Tale of the Dead Carolina Wrens.

said the slightly out of shape gent in the seer sucker suit sitting behind Captain Ahab.  No one new much about him other than he had to get out of a small Southern town on short notice and had booked a room on the Alyssa at the last minute.

Ishmael felt his stomach heave and he wondered if he was about to lose his lunch. He hoped this was not the case. That last meal of Texas-style chili with green beans had tasted terrible going down. It would taste worse on the way back up.

Sensing that Ishmael was in distress, Ahab offered him a drink of his kombucha tea and invited him to do some calming yoga poses.  The rest of the crew took it all in stride.  Those two dude had been screwed up ever since they got back their bicycle tour of Canada.  Canadians can screw up anything, even a good seafaring story.

Ishmael, originally from Chandler, Arizona, wondered why he had left the desert to pursue his dream of becoming a sailor. The kombucha tea did not help. Neither did the poses he had learned at Billy Ray's Yoga Studio and Used Truck Emporium. As he gulped some of the tea, Ishmael felt himself gagging on the partially digested chili and green beans. "Why didn't I become a yodelling accountant," he asked himself, not for the first time.

Just then, the timid fellow in the seer sucker suit jumped to his feet and began to flail about in the most bizarre fashion, screaming "I left Greenville to rid my self of you" over and over.  Then he reach into his waist band and pulled out a nickle plated snub nosed .38 and began firing blindly into the bottom of the boat.

Judith, the striking 25-year-old chef, knew she had to act quickly. Ishmael was too busy being seasick and Captain Ahab was in a pretzel-shaped yoga position. Neither of them could help.

"This ship's bound for Fantasy Island," she whispered to the man in the seersucker suit, "and I can make your wildest fantasies come true."

Unfortunately, Quentin, the wayward rat snake, who had stowed away in seer suckers suitcase, slowly slithered southward on the svelte thigh of the striking sous chef.  There was no amount of lifted skirt or perfumed inner thigh that could coax the man in the seer sucker suit into accepting the proffered pair of tickets to paradise.

The Alyysa crashed against the rocks of Fantasy Island. Passengers fought the waves and swam to shore.

On the beach, Judith and the man in the seersucker suit were locked in an embrace that would make a yoga expert jealous. Quentin, the wayward rat snake, snuggled up to the two intertwined bodies, hoping for a hug.

Meanwhile on the now disintegrating schooner, Ishmael could no longer keep his lunch down. Chunks of chili with beans littered the surface of the water and the passengers who were still swimming tried desperately to avoid the debris.
