This is why I don't go in the ocean

When I was in the Navy and stationed in Key West FL (I know, but somebody has to be there) I learned how bored sailors hunt for shark.  You need

A hook of proper size with a piece of chain long enough so the shark doesn't chew through the line.

Several hundred feet of line, gloves, a car, beer and a baseball bat.

Throw the baited hook out as far as you can, organize the remaining line on the beach so it plays out without snagging and sit down to drink the beer.  If a shark takes the hook, everyone dons gloves and grabs the line.  The task is not to pull the shark in but to keep him/her from hitting the end of the line with some speed on.  Work for a couple of hours to tire the shark out.  Tie the line to the car and drag the shark in.  Go get the baseball bat.

It's interesting to see what one finds in a sharks stomach.
