goldendesign Posted September 15, 2015 Share #1 Posted September 15, 2015 Our little developers group at the Uni are getting an introduction to the 3 maker bots and the 2 utilimakers we have on campus. Seems the campus won some funding and we all are getting 5 year professional licenses for the autoDesk software suite. I downloaded the inventor package yester day and have some cool ideas for what to print. If I have time I am totally making a bitching fractal vase and maybe a batman keychain. goldendesign Posted September 15, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted September 15, 2015 Cool. I'd like to be able to justify one for our company. I think I'm gonna get one myself. Will use the Uni one as long as possible but you can buy a maker bot mini for $1500 Can't be long before the kiddies are crankin out plastic peni. Not gonna lie, was trying to figure out where I could hide one in this: See how long it would take the wife to notice.

Johnny Come Lately Name Posted September 16, 2015 Share #13 Posted September 16, 2015 I thought you already had a big-ass one that made stuff out of aluminium?Options are nice to have. With my own 3-D printer, I can do a greater quantity and variety of government jobs.(Besides, we lost custody of our CNC to production.)
goldendesign Posted September 16, 2015 Author Share #14 Posted September 16, 2015 Yesterday was a good introduction to the software. I used their 3d scanner (super neat) to scale up a R2D2 keychain. Now I am working out how to add the board, drive, power to make it semi-autonomous. Gonna be about 8" tall raspberry pi controlled awesomeness. LoneWolf Posted September 17, 2015 Share #16 Posted September 17, 2015 You need to do what every geek wants to do with a 3D printer -make action figures of yourself. I walked into Sam's Club a month ago; they're selling MakerBots now.

Johnny Come Lately Name Posted September 17, 2015 Share #18 Posted September 17, 2015 I thought you were the guy who ran the CNC? I program the production ones and used to run the one in the toolroom. They took that one away for production and if we need it, we can still use it i.e. "Beg for time on it". We're "useless overhead" we don't rate.
