Having the front wheel fall off could ruin the ride.

When I was about ten I popped a wheelie on my fake Sting Ray and watched my front wheel roll on down the sidewalk. I tried my damnedest to pull the front end up and over, but gravity prevailed,  Big ouch!

There have been three incidents reported in which an open quick release lever on a bicycle’s front wheel hub came into contact with the bike's front disc brake assembly and caused the front wheel to come to a sudden stop or separate from the bicycle. In one incident, an adult male suffered a broken finger, a wrist injury, a shoulder injury and abrasions. No injuries were reported in the other two incidents.

...it appears to cover anything with a front disc brake and a QR.  I'm uncertain if any such bicycles are excepted.

So...let me get this straight...if you leave your QR lever in the open position your disc(k) brake may cause you to loose the front wheel? Why not just close the freaking lever?

Or did I misread. I've been know to do that on occasion.

...yes, it is one of "those" safety recalls.  Many people have simply switched the quick release so that the little offending lever handle is on the opposite side from the disc rotor, but closing the goddam thing is always an excellent idea before riding your bicycle.:)

Yes, but now you will be protected from yourself........or your lawyer will make you rich for being careless.

I've never forgotten to tighten the quick release lever. Lever for the brakes? Different story.
