Researchers Discover Very Difficult Tongue Twister

You know the drill, say this 10 times fast.  Researchers at MIT found that none of their test subject could do it.  Disrgard that this makes no sense at all.

Why 10?  Who established this arbitrary threshold for satisfactory performance?

Why not 11? Or 6? Or 42?

And couldn't these researchers, at MIT of all places, spend their time more fruitfully investigating real issues instead of wasting time and money investigating tongue twisters?  Wouldn't their time be better spent figuring out why blue is faster than red?
