Just got my first smartphone - Advice?

So, I just got my very first smartphone and I'm finding quite the learning curve.  It's a LG G2 running Android 4.2.2.

Questions:

1) What single most useful piece of knowledge can you impart to a new smartphone user?

2) What cycling app do you use and which features does it have that you think set it apart from the others.

TIA

#1)The people who work at the store where you bought it can check your browser history and find all the porn you might look at.

Get used to using the little keyboard. it's tricky at first, but you will get used to it quickly

There are thousands of apps out there, go for all the free ones first. you might like them better then the paid versions.

#2) I like endomondo for tracking, and also map my fitness is a close second.

1) Backup your numbers to a place where you can restore them.....OS updates are notorious for all Smartphones.

2) I don't use a cycling app since I don't have a smartphone.

Has anyone here used Velodroid?

I'm intrigued because it can interface directly with ridewithgps, which is my preferred site for storing/viewing gps routes.  It's $4.50 for the full version.  There's a free one that is limited to 40 rides, which should be more than enough to evaluate.

Do any of these apps have a battery manager component that will automatically shut off everything not needed for the ride tracking, or do I need a separate app for that?

Major Android Apps I use (until I switch to an iPhone next year).

Any.Do (task list/calendar/reminder)

Quicker - quick access to common functions (toggle gps/bluetooth/wifi, etc..)

Smart Actions - Do things based on events. Like "if after 10pm and on charger", then "mute sound".

MapMyRide - for cycling. Not sure I like it. Only used it a few times. The jury is still out.
