Popular Post Road Runner Posted March 13, 2016 Popular Post Share #1 Posted March 13, 2016 Dried beans in a bag with seasonings. It smells great right now. Been cooking for 2 hours. I'm using country ham vice sausage. 6

BuffJim Posted March 13, 2016 Share #3 Posted March 13, 2016 Looks good. I've got corned beef and cabbage cooking in the crockpot. 5 1/2 hours left.
Further Posted March 13, 2016 Share #4 Posted March 13, 2016 I've made the standard version using Uncle Charley's sausage. Took it to a work pot luck thing and got a marriage proposal. Good stuff.
UglyBob Posted March 13, 2016 Share #5 Posted March 13, 2016 You need to make some good old fashioned cornbread to go with that.

MickinMD ★ Posted December 1, 2019 Share #13 Posted December 1, 2019 Dried beans! Did you have to soak them overnight or is cooking for a couple hours doing the trick?

If they are going in a soup you can just cook them longer in the pot but I usually soak them first as it does take several hours if you don’t. BTW dried beans over canned for soups unless you like bean mush.

If you take shortcuts, you will have death farts while you play poker. Soaking is probably a good idea.
late Posted December 1, 2019 Share #17 Posted December 1, 2019 Smoked ham hocks. You can add other meat, they don't add much meat. But they add a ton of flavor. https://www.senate.gov/reference/reference_item/bean_soup.htm
