Dottleshead ★ Posted July 16, 2016 Share #1 Posted July 16, 2016 Is there are mosquito season or is it year round? If I ride the Paul Bunyan trail do I need to be enclosed in netting? How much deet do I need to carry?
Further Posted July 16, 2016 Share #2 Posted July 16, 2016 Pretty sure they taper off in November, and are pretty much gone in December
Page Turner Posted July 16, 2016 Share #3 Posted July 16, 2016 ...I don't know where the Paul Bunyon trail is, but when I lived lakeshore on Lynwood lake for two summers, there were a couple of hours in the morning, and three or four hours before and after sunset when it was impossible to stand around outside unless drenched in DEET. Even then, they would buzz around at a short distance, looking for an opening. But yeah, by December they're pretty much gone. You're OK if you ride that trail in February. Randomguy Posted July 16, 2016 Share #5 Posted July 16, 2016 I believe they are described as being "as large as hummingbirds", and very numerous. You will get mosquito-spread PRI there, no doubt.

LoneWolf Posted July 16, 2016 Share #7 Posted July 16, 2016 I have heard reports that small children have been carried off by them, and been found wandering the woods in a daze, several pints lower than they should be.
