Popular Post Parsnip Totin Jack ★ Posted July 18, 2016 Popular Post Share #1 Posted July 18, 2016 We had a fabulous time out west. Son o' 7 and I went out to Cisco Grove, CA for something called AxialFest. An annual event sponsored by Axial, a maker of remote controlled 4 wheel drive vehicles. The Cisco Grove campground is on 350+ acres in the Sierra Nevada Mtns, roughly halfway between Reno and Sacramento. There were more than 750 registered people at the event plus families and friends. It was big. They prepared seven different courses to run the vehicles on and each had 150 gates that we had to get thru with different types of obstacles (rocks, trees, sand, water and bees). The bees weren't planned, they just showed up uninvited and made things interesting. We were given scorecards and each course was timed with penalties taken for missed gates, hand or foot assists etc. It is sort of like golf so I cheated on this too. We had a nice shady campsite, but it was in the overflow section so we didn't have a picnic table at the site. We bought some folding chairs at the Goodwill store in Auburn for $3 each and left them behind. On Thursday we drove to Georgetown CA to find the Rubicon Trail. Son o' 7 is into Jeeps and 4-wheeling so the Rubicon is to Jeepers like a Cathedral is to the religious. We walked part of the trail with the RC trucks and had fun. Talked with some people heading out, about ten vehicles and a woman on a mountain bike. I didn't have much hope for her because at the start of the trail is a slight hill up a granite slab. She stalled on the climb, dismounted and walked up the hill. Her chain was on the big ring up front. Not a schralper, that one. Friday and Saturday we covered most of the courses, my son did six of the seven and I did five. It was fun. We met a lot of nice people. The whole Reno/Tahoe area is like a giant playground and everyone seems to do some outdoor activity. Cycling, running, hiking, off-roading, fishing, skiing and just chilling outdoors. The food was fantastic except that one place I will not speak of. On Saturday night they had the closing festivities and awards were presented. This went on too long. It lasted longer than the two beers I brought and longer than my attention span. At the end they gave away truck parts, accessories, ultra running shoes, wheel sets and tires (for the full size vehicles). The $1,000 prize for BF Goodrich tires was won by a ten year old. One of the top prizes was a $1,200 dirt jump bike made by Transition. They showed the winning number on the live website feed but they wouldn't tell us until the end of the night. My son scanned his social media site and learned the winning number. He said to me, Dad, this is your ticket number, and showed it to me. I won the bike! Schralping here I come. I need to find a pump track nearby. The bike is the BLT model*, single speed, rear disc brake and Fox shocks. On Sunday, we found a bike shop that opened at 8 am in the next town over (Truckee). They said they could pack and ship the bike to me on Monday. One guy asked if I wanted to sell it. I said I would if the price was right. He offered $300. I said no. $400?. My floor is $800, I won't consider anything less. He wasn't interested in that and I was okay with that too. * How do you like that Wilbur and Page?

Randomguy Posted July 18, 2016 Share #6 Posted July 18, 2016 Nice! Could you put a longer seatpost in that thing and make it resemble a real bike that you could actually ride? Could you sell it locally for $800? Camping is fun!

I has friends in low places.
