Popular Post smudge Posted January 8, 2017 Popular Post Share #1 Posted January 8, 2017 Needed to get out of Dodge, so I went to Marquette to pick up a few things and then to camp. It was cold; low single digits and a hearty wind. Got to use my 4 wheel drive low to get in; I think there was 10-12 of snow? I only shoveled about a 10 foot wide swath in front of the porch door. I used the snowshoes after that. We don't go there much in the winter, so it gets super cold inside. I had to change into my cold weather clothes! I managed. Whew! I had a tough time keeping a fire going, but I eventually got the temp up. This one said it got to 10°, but another thermometer gave me credit for getting up to 20° by the time I left. I put on the snowshoes and went to the shed with the corn to stock up. I need a good, hearty rucksack to carry the corn and sunflower seeds for the woodland creatures; this string pack hurts and is not going to last long. I was surprised how deep the snow was and how cold my tongue got from the heavy breathing! Ha! On my way back to camp, I decided to stomp down the snow on my fatbike trail. Probably won't work again this year, but it was calories burned and more fresh air. I actually got a little warm on the way back. That's good! I knew I'd be in the cold camp for a while to eat supper, so being warm was good! But first I saw someone else enjoying supper. This was the first drop I had made. This little guy wasn't gonna let me scare him off; I think I was about 8' from him. And I enjoyed a pasty and a beer... (The snow at the bottom of my pantlegs never did melt even though they were hanging next to the fire) This pic is frustratingly blue, but it still shows why I like the avatar I use. It was a good visit.
sheep_herder Posted January 8, 2017 Share #2 Posted January 8, 2017 Nice, thanks for sharing. Glad you had a Good trip. Nice you have a place where you can get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
petitepedal Posted January 8, 2017 Share #3 Posted January 8, 2017 Looks like much more fun than my Saturday...If you want to burn some calories in warmer climate..come on over...tack strip removal, flooring prep and moving crap...there is enough to keep two or three people happy! When I would ski in temps like that, I would put some skin protector stuff on my face...I can't remember what product...but I called it "face chapstick"...worked well... Scrapr Posted January 8, 2017 Share #5 Posted January 8, 2017 You need a balacava. Works good. WoScrapr & I snowshoed out our garage a couple days ago. She won't like this picture. This is the park we take the dogs to. There is a couple inches of ice under the snow. She hit a berm and fell. Temp has been about 3-20 degrees

My mom was worried about my face too. About 15 minutes before I took this picture I realized even though my face was exposed, it didn't feel cold at all. I think my phone used all the red from that hood to color my face! My skin wasn't cold; I look like that 'cuz I was gasping for air. Breaking trail with snowshoes is hard work!
