Popular Post goldendesign Posted January 11, 2017 Popular Post Share #1 Posted January 11, 2017 I received my printer this past weekend. Due to an oversight in orders they were oversold on the model I ordered and upgraded me to the next step up for free! Would have cost another $100 to get this one. I used up the supplied spools of material making a few simple things as a practice: cell phone case for my phone, brackets to hang my tools for the unit, fan shroud for the fans, a guide for the filament, and of course a millennium falcon. So far the process is easier than expected. PLA (corn based polymer) is very easy to print with. ABS is not as hard as everyone makes it out to be, I only had one issue in a 14hr print crashing after 3 hours because my custom Gcode had a temperature error and the printer froze up. Reprinting it now and made myself proof my code much closer.
bikeman564™ Posted January 11, 2017 Share #2 Posted January 11, 2017 Nice, I'm trying to figure out a justification for one at work

So far I have printed stuff only for my printer and for funsies. Though she should be impressed as this latest print will be wall mounted speaker mounts I designed last night.
maddmaxx ★ Posted January 11, 2017 Share #4 Posted January 11, 2017 So far I can't justify owning one but I do have some sources for printed drone parts.....mostly camera mounts and battery brackets.

You could design and print some kidneys for me. I could find the people that needed them.

I've put about 400 into it all so far but the printer is priced at that without the professional 2 day, 8 hour training, Auto Cad inventor professional 4 year licence and about $90 of filament. On the whole I think I made out ok.
Johnny Come Lately Name Posted January 12, 2017 Share #10 Posted January 12, 2017 I keep threatening to get one but haven't yet come up with a justification. I may buy one, use it for a while and then donate it to the library for a makerspace.
JohnIan Posted January 12, 2017 Share #11 Posted January 12, 2017 Perhaps it could be justified as a source for replacement bike parts?

It'd be far more cost-effective to just buy the parts... If I could ingratiate myself with the folks at work who have them, that would be better yet. I have on order a material that is a printable carbon fiber. Supposedly has very similar strength and weight properties as the laminated CF we usually deal with.
