When working on staging we had guys up top installing, (siding, trim...) and guys below cutting.  Sometimes a 1/16 isn't a fine enough measurement.  You'd pass up a piece of something, the installer would try and fit it, if it was too big they'd pass it down and say to take of a c%&# hair, the cutter would often ask, a blonde one, a red one...

They can't even consider ones with a true vernier scale:
