Johnny Come Lately Name Posted January 15, 2017 Share #1 Posted January 15, 2017 How is one supposed to complete any sort of technical endeavor without being able use the requisite oaths and profanities at the appropriate volume level, without the dog slinking off into another room acting like a murder has been committed?
LoneWolf Posted January 15, 2017 Share #2 Posted January 15, 2017 Maybe your dog has a history of something else happening in the past when voices were raised and profanities used? You need to train him like in Jack London's "Call Of the Wild" so that he recognizes that loud swears are expressions of love.

If your pooch is a rescue, there's plenty that react in fear from that kind of stuff due to a history. Should have clarified.

Our largest cat (22-23lbs) is like that too, but in the several months before he was found roaming an auto parts lot as an older kitten, heaven knows what might have happened. Johnny Come Lately Name Posted January 15, 2017 Author Share #8 Posted January 15, 2017 I was once replacing some wallpaper the cat had destroyed (about two weeks after I put it up). I was angry about having to do it and it wasn't going well, at all. I ended up ripping off a piece of the border, throwing it out into the room and saying many bad things, at great volume. He got up, went out in the hall and puked.

He got up, went out in the hall and puked. If I was doing that, the big one would have started, bolted from the room, and hid cowering somewhere, possibly puking from fear. This past summer, we cleaned much of my basement office. Turned out that was a safe and secure hiding place for him, and it caused the animal equivalent of a panic attack. We had to get him meds for occasional use, he was so worked up he couldn't pee for like a day and a half and we were worried it'd back up to his kidneys and kill him. Took the poor thing a week to get over it.

Leaves the kitchen if there's going to be "sizzling", hides if the smoke alarm goes off and if you extend a tape measure in his direction, he'll run away, all butthurt, giving the "why do you hate me?" face. He was pretty much a basket case in the waiting room, but that stuff calmed him right down.
Kirby Posted January 15, 2017 Share #12 Posted January 15, 2017 That's ok. Sometimes having a person can be a real PITA for a dog, but they love you anyway.

I forsook a bike ride just so I could take him skiing today, I don't want to hear it.

smudge ★ Posted January 16, 2017 Share #15 Posted January 16, 2017 Our big cat is a scardey cat. But any other cat (or skunk) comes in our yard, and he is a beast! Figures.
