I've hauled on the winter road in NWT, and the thought of that thin sheet of ice between the 70 tons of vehicle and load, and maybe 100 feet or more of frigid water is never totally out of your mind. Even though the safety record is pretty good. Most of the breakthroughs are early in the season, and involve road building equipment. This is still the pre season on the winter road.
