Kzoo Posted March 22, 2017 Share #1 Posted March 22, 2017 Cell phones........ What did we do without them? How long can you go during the day without checking your phone (email, text, social media)? If mine isn't within easy reach, I start feeling anxious. How about you?
UglyBob Posted March 22, 2017 Share #2 Posted March 22, 2017 I can usually let it go all day. On Thanksgiving, we usually take the motor home out of town to a place that has no cell or data service. We're unplugged for three full days. I get more writing done without the distraction.
Green Grass Posted March 22, 2017 Share #3 Posted March 22, 2017 Mine is within reach 24/7. I'm alerted when I get a text or an email and of course an actual call. I grab it only when alerted. I never check any social media on it. If I go out for lunch by myself, I'll read something of interest like Cyclingnews.com.
Indy Posted March 22, 2017 Share #4 Posted March 22, 2017 I feel lost if I don't have it, mainly because no one can get a hold of me if something happened to my kids or wife. So I constantly check that I have it, but other than that, if I can find something better to do than look at my phone, I will. It's just a distraction for someone with ADD, just like this forum and the internet in general.
Indy Posted March 22, 2017 Share #5 Posted March 22, 2017 And I have a Pebble (can't believe they are out of business) smart watch so don't have to look at my phone for alerts, just glance at wrist real quick. The Pebble was absolutely the perfect smart watch, long battery life, water proof and gives you just the info you actually need.

maddmaxx ★ Posted March 22, 2017 Share #7 Posted March 22, 2017 I've lost track of how long I can go without even turning it on. I carry it during rides. Not many other places now.
sheep_herder ★ Posted March 22, 2017 Share #8 Posted March 22, 2017 Many days at a time. Ours are not set up for messaging, so we only have them out when we are using them or if I am out of the house and expecting a call. We really do not get a lot of calls, even on our land line. Wilbur ★ Posted March 22, 2017 Share #12 Posted March 22, 2017 I rely very heavily on it for work and personal including business and personal banking. It is such a mandatory item, I carry two of them. It remains in reach 24 hours per day.
ChrisL Posted March 22, 2017 Share #13 Posted March 22, 2017 I turned off the ringer on my work phone, since I'm a short timer I don't answer most calls. I'm going an hour or so without checking.

At work it's on the desk but I'm not checking it all the time. If the MacBook is open, I'm reading email there. Otherwise I will be checking mail often on the phone. I don't have it set up to notify me (I use to but it drove me nuts) so I go out when I care (often) and pull down new mail. I don't a get lot of texts but if it's from WoKzoo she expects a right quick reply.

Kirby Posted March 23, 2017 Share #18 Posted March 23, 2017 I check my email frequently when I need to do so for work. When I'm not very busy at work, I can go for a long time without checking it at all,

groupw Posted March 23, 2017 Share #20 Posted March 23, 2017 If I have downtime during the day, I will check social media. During the evening, I will catch up if I missed much among friends. I carry my phone at the gym so I have my music for the workout. I forgot to grab it from a workstation when a friend stopped to say high. The music kept playing on my Bluetooth headphones so I didn't miss it until the music started to break up. Let's just say the 30 meter range advertised is conservative! I got a tone for a text and took me a while to backtrack to it!

Longjohn ★ Posted March 23, 2017 Share #22 Posted March 23, 2017 I use my phone quite a bit but not as a telephone. I run Strava, take photos and videos, do banking and shopping. I silence my phone when in church, sometimes when I go to silence it it is already silenced from the week before (oops, I hope if anyone called it wasn't important). tybeegb Posted March 23, 2017 Share #23 Posted March 23, 2017 All day. If I head into town on errands and I forget it, I don't turn around to go back and get it. I get so few calls or texts I sometimes forget I have it.

Longjohn ★ Posted March 30, 2017 Share #26 Posted March 30, 2017 I was showing someone photos of the twins yesterday and I noticed I was getting a phone call. Oops, did it again. Ringer still shut off since Sunday. LOL. I didn't answer and they didn't leave a voice mail.
