Popular Post goldendesign Posted May 23, 2017 Popular Post Share #1 Posted May 23, 2017 Wife is now 7 weeks away. Things are kinda frantic since her mind is processing a million things a minute. I've been keeping busy by doing the physical work. Assembled book shelves from Ikea spice racks, assembled crib, finished dresser/changing table, painted room, and almost finished decorating.

I have no idea what it's like to have nine months to plan for a baby. Our first baby we adopted we found out about him on a Monday and went and picked him up on Wednesday. We did already have baby machines like crib, playpen, etc. because we were foster parents. Our second and third were about the same.

Popular Post sheep_herder ★ Posted May 23, 2017 Popular Post Share #5 Posted May 23, 2017 Nice, when our daughter was born in 1964 we lived in an 8x43' mobile home, and she slept in a padded drawer. You can imagine how happy that made the grandmothers.

A friend of ours that lived three hours away from us told us about someone who gotten pregnant in college and didn't know what she was going to do. We told our friend that we would be willing to help her out if there was anything we could do. We were thinking maybe she could live with us until after she had the baby (we worked with crisis pregnancy centers and we did that with girls that their parents kicked them out when they found out they were pregnant). It turns out that our friend had submitted our name to adopt the baby. We had no clue she did that until we got a phone call asking us if we still wanted to adopt. When we said that we did they said to start getting ready because the baby is due is six weeks. They called us later that week and said congratulations you have a boy, he was early. We drove down and picked him up from the hospital when he was two days old.

We spoke with several 'agencies and found that the process is exceedingly long and relatively costly. We had just gone through the 2 year arduous process of turning my wife from permanent resident to US citizen. We passed.

We were on two counties waiting lists for several years and never moved up the list. Overseas adoptions were very expensive even back then. Our sons were all considered "hard to place" because they were either black of biracial. Daniel and John had already been born and were in foster care when we heard about them. We got Dan at six weeks and John was three months old when we heard about him.
