Randomguy Posted May 28, 2017 Share #1 Posted May 28, 2017 It really isn't a good song, and I just don't understand why everybody wants to cover it, change the hell out of it, play it, whatever. Don't get me wrong, it isn't a horrible song or anything, not as bad as much of the crap that is or ever was "popular", it just isn't all that good. You are welcome.

My comment is: That said, I never really listened to the lyrics, so I didn;t get the recent SNL skit. I love the original, Rufus Wainwrights, Jeff Buckley's, and kd lang's versions. MickinMD ★ Posted May 28, 2017 Share #4 Posted May 28, 2017 I agree: Pentatonix, Alexandra Burke, Jeff Buckley, Leonard Cohen, etc. don't sound anything like Handel! But I do love the original! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VI6dsMeABpU When the great composer Haydn traveled to London and heard it for the first time, he cried out, "I am nothing!" 1

Mr. Silly Posted May 29, 2017 Share #12 Posted May 29, 2017 The definition of a "good song" is whether it was in Shrek or not. Was "Hallelujah" in Shrek? Yes. Hallelujah is a good song.

Forum Administrator Posted January 26, 2020 Share #15 Posted January 26, 2020 I agree 110%. I hate every version of that stupid song. I'm not even trolling right now. I honestly wish I could take every copy of that song and dump it into a volcano.

Page Turner Posted January 26, 2020 Share #17 Posted January 26, 2020 ...it doesn't matter. Leonard Cohen once banged Janis Joplin for goodness sake. His place in music history is assured.
UglyBob Posted January 26, 2020 Share #18 Posted January 26, 2020 I love this song. For me absolute best version was Jeff Buckley. I like the pain in his voice.
Kirby Posted January 26, 2020 Share #19 Posted January 26, 2020 The ladies silver medalist skated to a version of that last night. It does get overused in skating, but when done well, it's very good.
