Yesterday's ride with pictures

I did a 40 mile loop yesterday afternoon through west Michigan farm country.  The weather was perfect (well except for the headwind most of the way back)

 

I saw lots of soybean fields

And more bean fields and a country school

And a field of watermelons that didn't make it to harvest.

Vines..

 

The northeast side of the old barn was covered with vines.  At one time this was a fine building.

Thanks for sharing!  The barn looks like it could have been on my grandparents' property. Then again I suppose a lot of barns end up looking like that.  Still, sentimental.  I like the "country road" pic. My kind of cycling!

I had a couple hills to get there and and I did a section of hills on the way back.  The area that most of the pictures are from is called the Gun Plain.  It's the Gun River flood plain.  it is an area about 10 miles long and about 3 miles wide that is the flood plain for a very small river.  The plain is filled with several feet of deposits of black muck.  Some of the richest farm dirt God made.  In addition the the corn and barns, it's a big potato.  Those watermelons were the first I've seen there and they were next to a large field of butternut squash.
