Parsnip Totin Jack ★ Posted July 22, 2017 Share #1 Posted July 22, 2017 It's 4:30 am at Dulles airport. The flight to Denver boards at 5:18. The gate area is filling up pretty quickly. I'm surprised by the number of people who appear to be sleeping on the benches. On the walk thru the terminal I saw at least a dozen in various positions. That doesn't look comfortable. One lady at the gate has a two-foot high pile of dreads on top of her head. She looks about 50. She might be in her 40's but they were a rough 40. The dreads are not a good look on her. If you watch Game of Thrones, picture Cersei Lannister with dreads. The flight is full with at least six people on standby. Watch for me on the news.
Parsnip Totin Jack ★ Posted July 22, 2017 Author Share #2 Posted July 22, 2017 They just asked for five volunteers to give up their seats. $750 in vouchers. Hell no.
Parsnip Totin Jack ★ Posted July 22, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted July 22, 2017 They just announced that our plane is grounded for three to four hours for a maintenance issue. They're looking for another plane right now. Least delay is probably two hours. So much for the belief that the first flight of the day gets out on time. Stay tuned. Parsnip Totin Jack ★ Posted July 22, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted July 22, 2017 New plane, new gate, new departure time. One hour delay. Not too bad. surreal moment. I go to take a dump and while I'm sitting there, two people come in. One occupies the stall next to me. They two are talking to each other and sound like girls. Yep, two girls. Damn did I go in the wrong bathrooms? Wait till they leave and confirm I was in the correct bathroom. How do two girls not see the urinals. Whatever.
maddmaxx ★ Posted July 22, 2017 Share #5 Posted July 22, 2017 Airports are fascinating places. It's better than a trip to the zoo. Keep those reports coming. I love watching people in airports. It almost makes the whole affair of travelling worthwhile. It's fun imagining the lives of the people you are watching.

Popular Post Wilbur ★ Posted July 22, 2017 Popular Post Share #7 Posted July 22, 2017 I showed up for my flight home from training in Montreal yesterday. I talk to a gal waiting at the gate. It turns out she was an airline employee travelling standby. She had been waiting for 6 hours. She mentions there are 20 other employees in the same boat plus deadheading crews. When we board, I notice the flight deck was empty. We waited onboard patiently and I was seated next to a deadheading pair of pilots that were positioning for a flight from Toronto. Then the cabin announcement after a 20 minute delay.. We are waiting for the pilots to show up but they are on a delayed inbound flight. They should be here in 20 minutes. An hour later we are still without crew as the inbound flight had no gate to park at and the pilots could not deplane. A few minutes later it was announced that the pilots would now be out of duty time and could not fly the leg to Toronto. Sigh... I looked at the Captain next to me and said "No volunteers?" A few minutes later his and the First Officers phones ring and we were underway! It is almost like I have worked in the industry for 30 some odd years.

Dirtyhip Posted July 22, 2017 Share #14 Posted July 22, 2017 Thank you for reminding me of how good it is to be spending time in a town with a population of 700. Ahhh, this is the life. Travel safe #7. Don't get airport rage.
maddmaxx ★ Posted July 22, 2017 Share #15 Posted July 22, 2017 Still one of the most beautiful airports I've ever been in. Taoyuan International inTaiwan. This may be because of the lack of people at this time of the morning.
Randomguy Posted July 22, 2017 Share #16 Posted July 22, 2017 Why are you going to Denver? How long? Where stay? While you are there, I think you should marvel at the fact that while the thermometer reads about as much as on the crap coast, you won't feel like you need another shower to clean the sweat you normally get from drying off from your shower back east. Also marvel at the fact that the temperature will actually drop at night to a very comfortable level, and at all times, your calibrated temperature will feel 10 - 15 degrees lower than the east coast feel. Oh yeah, go out and just try to get a mosquito bite, or even find a mosquito while you are at it. Of course, you know all this already, I am just griping.

For the extremes of everything, NYC wins. RO is here, so she wins.

Northwestern NJ is a little Colorado-like. Here is where I live:
Randomguy Posted July 22, 2017 Share #21 Posted July 22, 2017 I appreciate that that part of NJ is better than the other parts, but that is like saying syphilis is better than gonorrhea. Mostly because of the humidity and bugs, and the whole east coast thing. That picture looks pretty, though.

Longjohn ★ Posted July 22, 2017 Share #23 Posted July 22, 2017 #7 should be reporting on Colorado by now. Pennsylvania is a nice place to live. Take care of your birds and you won't have trouble with mosquitoes .
