Popular Post Further Posted August 12, 2017 Popular Post Share #1 Posted August 12, 2017 My first bike was a 20 inch no name tank. Balloon tires, fenders, chain guard, weighted a ton and a half, I remember it as being brown in color, with brush strokes showing. My mom didn't have a lot of money and she had bought what she could afford from the bicycle guy down the street. I loved that bike. Put countless hours on it, probably not a lot of miles, but a lot of time, owned it for at least two years. Then one day....a STINGRAY showed up in the line of used bikes at the bike guy down the street. It wasn't a real Stingray, but it had a banana seat and ape hanger bars. I had to have it. Negotiations were held. He (Mr. Brown, just remembered) would sell my bike for 10 or so dollars, and I would have to come up with another 10 or so dollars. I said OK. My old brown bike went in the line up, and I started counting pennies. I was probably about 8, maybe 9 years old, not old enough to mow lawns, my big money maker was floor scrubbing. Made 50 cents a kitchen. I pestered all the ladies in the neighborhood, pointing out spilled soup and cat poop that needed cleaned up. Finally I had my share. Now it was a waiting game. Soon as old brown bike sold, I would have my new to me STINGRAY. Shortly after supper one night the phone rang, it was Mr. Brown telling me that 'Old Brown' had sold. I was down the street with my money in hand before the phone had quit rocking on the holder. Man I was hot shit on my new to me STINGRAY. 5 5
