Chris... Posted August 17, 2017 Share #1 Posted August 17, 2017 B&H Photo just cancelled my order for a Solar filter. I ordered it 2 weeks ago. Bastards. Everywhere else is out of stock.
UglyBob Posted August 17, 2017 Share #2 Posted August 17, 2017 Go to a welding supply and get welding lenses. You can get them in varying degrees of protection and stack them accordingly. I've rigged them on a Tiffen filter carrier before and used them for solar photography.
Dirtyhip Posted August 17, 2017 Share #3 Posted August 17, 2017 Oh no. We are all counting on you. Honestly, I never look at bugs the same, after seeing yours.
UglyBob Posted August 17, 2017 Share #4 Posted August 17, 2017 You could also rig a shadow box and use the indirect method.

groupw Posted August 17, 2017 Share #6 Posted August 17, 2017 I bought some solar film from Amazon when I saw all the filters were back-ordered until after the eclipse.....when I tried in June! It just arrived Monday. I tried it out last night. Seems to work. Now just need to rig up a mount for it.
smudge ★ Posted August 17, 2017 Share #7 Posted August 17, 2017 B&H always seems to disappoint. My husband has a ton of welding lenses. I could use that?? I was wondering about it.
Johnny Come Lately Name Posted August 17, 2017 Share #8 Posted August 17, 2017 Don’t blame me for the shortage - we ain’t gonna see the damned thing here!
Rumble_Strip ★ Posted August 18, 2017 Share #9 Posted August 18, 2017 If you are going to use a welding lens, it has to be a No. 14 shade. I would make sure it doesn't have any scratches.

Scrapr ★ Posted August 18, 2017 Share #11 Posted August 18, 2017 Took this picture tonite. Smoke from nearby wildfires is covering Bend. Coming over from Portland this afternoon you could see the smoke bank. So far just covering Bend and not moving up to Madras where they have been planning a Solar fest for over a year. Hard to say if this smoke will clear out in time for Monday's big event. These fires typically are not put out until the Fall rains arrive. smudge ★ Posted August 18, 2017 Share #12 Posted August 18, 2017 It says 10-H. Is that close enough to a 14?
Chris... Posted August 18, 2017 Author Share #13 Posted August 18, 2017 Mine are also 10. I went to the local hardware store last night and they were sold out of the 14.
smudge ★ Posted August 18, 2017 Share #14 Posted August 18, 2017 I'm going with it. Probably won't be able to see eclipse anyway; supposed to be cloudy and rainy. Of course.
