Popular Post Airehead Posted August 30, 2017 Popular Post Share #1 Posted August 30, 2017 As told by Bailey the Airedale--- he is a friend of Lindy's and his human family members are friends of mine too! Michelle is their lovely, lovely daughter who just graduated college, secured a job, and her first apartment. She has renters insurance but it doesn't cover flooding. "Dad made it within a few blocks of her apt. Then he started swimmin'. The water he thought was about 7 feet but he wasn't going under to see. He is 6'3" and couldn't touch the bottom. Two strangers in a canoe saw him swimmin' an' paddled along side of him thinkin' he needed rescuin'. He told them about M'shelle an' where she was. They said for him to hop in, & "let's go get her!". An' they did. She heard 'em hollarin' at her window. An' she had everythin' already packed, 'cause dad had called her before he started his swim. They weren't that far from her roof line, so she was a...ble to lower everythin' she had packed...an' Jupiter in his crate down to them. Then she simply slid down to them an' the canoe. It was a small canoe..so, the two guys got out an' wadded beside the canoe that has holdin' dad, M'shelle an' Jupiter. She said area was full of people needin' rescuein'...an' there were other people w/small boats pickin' people up. Then dad an' M'shelle headed home......it took 'em a long time because of all the roads closed due to high water....but they made it. Both of 'em have had showers an' dry clothes...an' more importantly....food. Lexie an' I have been banned from the stairs.....an' Jupiter has taken over my tower. We're not too happy w/that...but I guess we're have to compromise...'cause our M'shelle is safe an' home! We want to thank everybody for their prayers an' tryin' to help. Mom doesn't believe in coincidences...."circumstance" is caused by energy, prayer, a "plan" ......it's all a force....an' we believe you all helped with that. An' on a side note....all the turmoil an' conflict that's been in the news media....well, from first hand experience....it's not happenin' down here in Texas.....all you have to do is witness some of the people from all walks of life comin' from all over....to help...just because they are people...an' like mom says, "all walk the same earth". First picture was Sunday afternoon when things looked pretty good and there was minimal risk. Second picture Michelle took as she was floating by in the canoe that rescued her. Same car, brand new to go with her first real job. Most of the water seems to have come from having to let water out of the levy to save the dam. So very sad.
sheep_herder ★ Posted August 30, 2017 Share #2 Posted August 30, 2017 Glad your friend is OK. Have you heard from the folks in Montgomery? I need to check on my relatives in Conroe. One poster from the LF lives near Conroe and seems to be ok so far. Prayers for all, as it is going be rough going for a long while.
Airehead Posted August 30, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted August 30, 2017 Nancy, my cousin in Montgomery, has been sleeping in the barn. They have had much rain but so far she only has a little water in the barn. She doubled up a couple horses in drier stalls and is working to channel water away. She feels very lucky and blessed. She is offering space to others in worse condition and was able to help move some horses to safer locations. She is a strong, confident woman but I still worry.

jsharr ★ Posted August 30, 2017 Share #5 Posted August 30, 2017 I cannot begin to fathom what all the people in SE Texas and NE Louisiana have been through in the last five days are going through right now. People have brought boats from as far away as New York to help. Singapore keeps helicopters in Grand Prairie, Texas so that they can send troops here to train. They offered the use of their helicopters to help in the rescue. Truly a global effort. I fear things will get worse before they get better. Last count I heard attributed 18 confirmed deaths to Harvey so far. This number will climb rapidly in the next few days as the water begins to recede and many of those reported missing are confirmed dead, including a family of six who was swept away in their van. Our Director of Marketing's father lives in Bridge City, Texas near Beaumont. He had water close to his house yesterday AM. Have not heard from him today. Gas prices are going to go up at least .25 in the days to come. Stations are already running out of gas in some areas.

Michelle the daughter needs all the help she can get. Despite having renters insurance, she has lost everything including her car. She can't even get back to town but Department of Homeland Security, where she works is likely to be helpful with getting her temp housing so she can work. There is a Go Fund Me page for her set up by some friends.

Ralphie ★ Posted August 30, 2017 Share #14 Posted August 30, 2017 Is water damage covered by auto insurance? Comprehensive Coverage Can Help. Comprehensive coverage can provide flood insurance for your car, as this type of insurance covers incidents that are out of your control, such as acts of nature, including water damage due to flooding.
