Kzoo Posted September 8, 2017 Share #1 Posted September 8, 2017 Do you need to use Purell (etc.) to sanitize your hands? I don't use that stuff much. I do wipe the handle of the shopping cart at the grocery store. I fall somewhere between "what doesn't kill you will make you stronger" and "I don't want that stuff on my hands" We had a guy here that came in early to sanitize his keyboard and desk phone before he started work each day. And one time I saw his reaction after someone else used his phone - 1/2 a can of Lysol. And how about the 5 10 15 30 second rule...... #whataboutyou

Square Wheels Posted September 8, 2017 Share #5 Posted September 8, 2017 I am. I eat at my desk. Whenever I have papers on my desk that have been in our lab, I Purell and sanitize my desk, mouse, keyboard, pen... Don't forget where I work, it's pretty gross here.

You would know if you touched mine by either the smell or the burning sensation. Probably both.

It wasn't a personal question, Heavens no. It was a soap isle question.
Dirtyhip Posted September 8, 2017 Share #8 Posted September 8, 2017 I wipe the cart handle about 1/10 of the time, maybe. Sanitizer isn't really a thing for me, unless I am somewhere where I can not wash, have touched really dirty things, and need to eat. We did buy a very small container of bleach for the camper, so I can put a dabble on the sponge every day or so. It is our goal to stay safe, but not be phobic about it. We had that conversation a couple weeks ago remember. An alternative you could take your lunch down to the cafeteria and share the germs of others from all over the hospital. Longjohn ★ Posted September 8, 2017 Share #10 Posted September 8, 2017 I don't touch anything in a doctor' office/waiting room. Diseased people hang out there. I'll eat garden dirt no problem.

I bet he wears pants to stop his genitals from touching anything there. 1
maddmaxx ★ Posted September 8, 2017 Share #14 Posted September 8, 2017 Having survived the third world I don't think I will ever fear germs again. Oh, I take precautions with things like flue shots and such but wiping the handle of a shopping cart does so little good in the scheme of things that it is IMO a waste of time. That will never happen. They just spent over 2 million renovating the cafe, I've never eaten there.
Parsnip Totin Jack ★ Posted September 8, 2017 Share #16 Posted September 8, 2017 Nope. I wash my hands in the restroom and the kitchen but skip the sanitizer lotion and the cart-handle wiping business. Seems OCD to me. 2

Zephyr Posted September 9, 2017 Share #19 Posted September 9, 2017 Not even close. I'll put it this way, when it comes to food I don't follow the 'five second rule', I go with my own ' five person rule'. I really don't care how long it has been on the ground, but it is all about how many people are gong to see me pick it up and eat it. I live with the "You eat a bucket of dirt before you die" mantra. But I always wash after using the bathroom. Always. 1
BuffJim Posted September 9, 2017 Share #20 Posted September 9, 2017 Nope, but I don't like being around people who are visibly sick. The worst is hearing a server complain to hear co-workers how sick she is, and how she should have called in, but needs the money. My asthma makes common respiratory infections a 3 week ordeal of misery.
Wilbur ★ Posted September 9, 2017 Share #21 Posted September 9, 2017 No, but I take normal precautions to avoid transference of bacteria. Especially with food preparation. I also wash my hands after contact with the normal contamination sources.
Reverend_Maynard Posted September 9, 2017 Share #22 Posted September 9, 2017 No. I rarely consider such things. I wash after using the bathroom and before cooking, but often forget to before eating. I pretty much never wipe down surfaces before touching.
