Popular Post groupw Posted September 12, 2017 Popular Post Share #1 Posted September 12, 2017 28 years ago, WoW and I went to see the Rolling Stones in Ames, IA on their Steel Wheels tour. It was very chilly, but an amazing musical experience! One of the best concerts I ever went to! I had always liked the song "Sympathy for the Devil", but this concert kicked it up a few notches. Keith Richards, known more for great riffs than guitar solos, played a brain searing, emotional solo that was a highlight of the show for me. At the end of the song, he leaned back against an amp with a huge grin on his face. I knew we saw something special! Neither the IMAX movie, nor the live album from that tour had anything close to what we remembered. Some friends and I have been searching for a bootleg recording of the concert ever since. Last night, I was about to fall asleep on the couch when our doorbell rang. It was one of my best friends with a crazy grin on his face (this guy looks and speaks just like Andrew Zimmern!). He is a big fan of bootleg recordings and this had been his holy grail! He presented me a pair of CD's burned from that concert! It was 80's tech - most likely recorded on a Walkman, but not bad for the era. I tried listening to the rest of the concert, but as good as it was, I had to hear "Sympathy" and fast forwarded to it. I was not disappointed! Tears streamed from my eyes as I relived that night from nearly 30 years ago!
Parsnip Totin Jack ★ Posted September 12, 2017 Share #2 Posted September 12, 2017 Congrats on the acquisition! A good friend pulls through. I've seen the Stones back in the day and was always entertained at every show. First show was in July 1975 in Largo MD. A barnburner. I'd love to have a bootleg of that show.
Longjohn ★ Posted September 12, 2017 Share #3 Posted September 12, 2017 Long time ago I watched the X-rated cartoon Fritz the Cat at the local drive in theater. I thought it was the best movie I ever saw. Many years later I rented the movie to show my wife. I was embarrassed to think that at one time I thought it was a great movie. Something else must have influenced my opinion of that movie. 2
jsharr ★ Posted September 12, 2017 Share #4 Posted September 12, 2017 I have seen very few concerts. George Michael. REM, U2, Motley Crew, Madonna, Jimmy Buffet (multiple times), REO Speedwagon, The Wiggles. Buffet has to to be my favorite, as it is when me and 20 or 30 thousand of my closest friends get together to sing songs we know and love. Best moment had to be when Jimmy got in a scissor lift skirted to look like a palm tree about 100 feet from us and went up in the air to play some songs with just a guitar. Also remember seeing the Butthole Surfers at a punk club in Dallas and doing a dance my friends and invented called the Tilt A whirl. It is the same as the carnival ride, just done in a mosh pit fueled up on alcohol and adrenaline.
Wilbur ★ Posted September 12, 2017 Share #5 Posted September 12, 2017 Bought a 67 VW Beatle when I was in High School. Had an absolute riot with that car before selling it. 20 years later when I had disposable cash, I bought another one. No, it wasn't as fun as I remembered or maybe I wasn't. Sold it 5 days later.
F_in Ray Of Sunshine Posted September 12, 2017 Share #6 Posted September 12, 2017 No reliving the best concert ever, for me. Freddie's kinda dead.
