Popular Post Longjohn ★ Posted September 13, 2017 Popular Post Share #1 Posted September 13, 2017 Thirty five miles, I met a couple touring cyclists. I never see any other cyclists on my rides. I saw a girl all loaded down on a hill I was climbing. I caught up to her and then I saw another touring cyclist standing under a tree almost at the top of the hill. I told her it looks like someone is waiting on you. She said he isn't waiting on me, I never saw him before. What are the odds two touring cyclists going up the same hill and not together. The girl was getting near the end of a solo self supported cross country tour. She was heading to Pittsburgh to get on the trail to D.C. She was excited about getting away from these hills and traffic. The guy was on his first ever bike tour and was feeling like he bit off more than he could chew. I told the two of them there was a DQ a tenth of a mile up the road so we stopped there and had ice cream and they refilled their water bottles. He was heading to Toledo, Ohio. He said he was tired of pushing his bike up hills. He said leg cramps kept him from sleeping at night. my road has three townships. My township uses stone on the road and when they work on the road it's almost impassible with road tires. This township about a mile down the road uses dirt. It's usually dusty or muddy but today it was just right. 6

Longjohn ★ Posted September 13, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted September 13, 2017 I did take a picture of the guy too. He said bike touring was on his bucket list and he finally got the time to do it. He's seventy years old. 3

Digital_photog ★ Posted September 14, 2017 Share #7 Posted September 14, 2017 The above posts make my 19.6 miles in the drizzle seem insignificant. Total is now 325.6 for the month. Maybe this weekend I can gain on @bikeman564™.

Longjohn ★ Posted September 14, 2017 Author Share #10 Posted September 14, 2017 I was surprised as I followed those two heavily loaded bikes down the hills that they used their brakes a lot to control their speed. They could have really cruised, I suppose that's why they have never broken bones?
Zephyr Posted September 14, 2017 Share #11 Posted September 14, 2017 Great post LJ. A mere 6 for me, but a day at the water and two dives.
Wilbur ★ Posted September 14, 2017 Share #12 Posted September 14, 2017 56 flights of stairs, 20 minutes on a hotel dreadmill and 40 minutes x2 of body weight training. Screw cross training, I am going straight to parkour.

Longjohn ★ Posted September 14, 2017 Author Share #14 Posted September 14, 2017 Here's a better picture of my dirty road. It is really smooth right now but it changes daily with the weather. It's probably the main reason I don't worry about having dirty bikes and vehicles. I'm going to try to clean the bikes before I head out to Indiana tomorrow for the ride with DP.
