Popular Post smudge ★ Posted September 14, 2017 Popular Post Share #1 Posted September 14, 2017 I had my three week post-op dr appointment today. I saw the PA, but I didn't really believe what she told me. (no crutches, no brace) I had seen the doc walking around the hall, so I asked if I was going to see him. She said sure. He came in and told me no crutches (THANK YOU!), but I have to use the brace for another 4 weeks. That's ok; I pretty much figured that. He checked my knee and said it felt good. He didn't stress the MCL too much, but he said the ACL felt good. My extension is real good, but my flexion is a little lacking. He gave me a script for PT (2-3 times per week, 6 weeks). Then he said the best thing. I HAVE to get on a bike within a week. Unfortunately, he was talking about an exercise bike, but that's ok too. Mostly I'm going to dread the top of the pedal stroke since my knee doesn't flex real well, but I am looking forward to getting the pedaling motion going. It sounds like he will want me on a regular bike soon too; nothing like hearty single track, but easy pedaling. He likes the injured knee to get that pedaling motion. I said I'm scheduled to go back to work on the 25th, does that sound about right? He said that seemed a bit soon. Again he said this is a big surgery, and if I felt I needed more time off work to just let him know. Hmmm... That would really piss of the people at work cuz they would have to cover my shift for a couple more weeks. That's kinda too bad; I haven't truly walked on my legs for three weeks. It is totally weird walking right now. My calf and quad are totally stressed with the little walking HoSmudge and I did at the store. We'll see. HoSmudge has a spare cane in his truck. He let me use it when we were at the store. I would rather have empty hands right now, but the cane is good to have for support even though the support is pretty much mental. But the best part was when the Doc said he wants me on a bike within a week. Not gonna lie; I teared up. (blushy) 7 1

2Far ★ Posted September 14, 2017 Share #6 Posted September 14, 2017 WooHoo! Re the exercise bike: I had to climb on it from the back. Looked doofus, but worked like a charm. I think the BTW on the 25th is early. You're not going to have walking around stamina for a full work day plus getting up/getting ready/getting to work time. I was buggered at the end of the day 8 weeks post op. (And my surgery was a lot less traumatic than yours) if you don't have to be back to work money-wise, shoot for the middle of October.
