Yup. Temp control is supposedly a big big deal, but I take a fairly ghetto approach. I use the basement temp (60-ish) to do the bulk of fermentation and then slap the belt on to finish up. The porter is just about done and the trippel just getting started.

I have a temp controller and a small chest freezer that I can do temp control with, but I usually don't bother. (To a lot of people this is heresy)

I got tired of replacing buckets and carboys are a pain in the ass to clean. (Plus I've heard too many horror stories). (And a mouse died in mine).
