I had heard his first album on the radio a bit and liked it, but what really knocked me sideways was seeing him on SNL, doing "Refugee". I literally went out the next day and bought "Damn The Torpedos". I also remember having the radio on at work one night and hearing the opening of "Runnin' Down A Dream", for the first time.
