Longjohn ★ Posted October 2, 2017 Share #1 Posted October 2, 2017 They were all over my flowers today. Heavy frost last two nights. I think they need to get moving.
Thaddeus Kosciuszko Posted October 2, 2017 Share #2 Posted October 2, 2017 My guess would be about three times as long as it would take an unladen European swallow.
Longjohn ★ Posted October 2, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted October 2, 2017 The Monarch is such a strange bug. The ones you see early in the summer only live two to six weeks, the ones that are around in the fall migrate south and live up to nine months. It takes them a couple months to fly south. Further Posted October 2, 2017 Share #4 Posted October 2, 2017 Up to two months, sometimes over 200 miles a day. Fuckers are amazing !
BuffJim Posted October 2, 2017 Share #5 Posted October 2, 2017 I saw a lot last week. Yesterday at the wildlife refuge I didn't see any, although there was a lot of milkweed. LJ is straight South of me, maybe he got ours from last week.
Longjohn ★ Posted October 2, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted October 2, 2017 They never touched my milkweed until late July. I didn't think I was going to get any but during Aug. they were devouring the milkweed like never before. Completely stripped the leaves off some of the plants. I just pulled up all my milkweed totally untouched.
