Wilbur ★ Posted October 12, 2017 Share #2 Posted October 12, 2017 British food was excellent until Hard Rock came along and spoiled it. I was just North of Kingston upon Hull going to fly in an acquaintances Dragon Rapide and we stopped at a small pub for lunch. I had a pie that was Boar, Pheasant and Venison. Absolutely, the best meal I have ever had. UK is full of fine food.
MickinMD ★ Posted October 12, 2017 Share #3 Posted October 12, 2017 It's 95 Pounds ($125 US) for the Tasting Menu. I don't think I'd want to pay 15 Pounds ($20 US) extra for "Strawberries and Hay."
pedalphile Posted October 12, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted October 12, 2017 Sour bread and sour butter sounds a bit challenging. I've seen the guy cooking on the tv, he is full of adventure & creativity. There is a lot of local and family input into the restaurant. Comparing prices around the fancy restaurants that price for the tasting menu isn't far out.
Zephyr Posted October 12, 2017 Share #5 Posted October 12, 2017 I would have a go at that menu, with the recommended wines of course
pedalphile Posted October 12, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted October 12, 2017 Given it's a pub, there should be recommended beers with the courses also.

You can't do the conversion to USD when travelling unless you are buying objects like clothing you can also buy in the US. Local pricing is local currency. They earn in pound sterling and spend in pound sterling. It all works out.
2Far ★ Posted October 12, 2017 Share #8 Posted October 12, 2017 MMmm, Stellenbosch makes some goed lekke wines! When I was in SA we did a huge project for Stellenbosch. The results far surpassed their expectations & they brought our whole mgmt team down from J-Burg for an appreciation dinner. By far & away the finest meal I've ever had. BuffJim Posted October 12, 2017 Share #9 Posted October 12, 2017 I would enjoy this, but rarely get the chance to eat at that level. When I wrote the wine column, I occasionally got treated to (or attended on my own dime) some nice meals.

Kirby Posted October 12, 2017 Share #12 Posted October 12, 2017 I always enjoy seeing a squid dressed up for the night. I'm sure the food is wonderful, but it's a bit too fancy for my taste.
