Popular Post Parsnip Totin Jack Posted October 12, 2017 Popular Post Share #1 Posted October 12, 2017 Tomorrow I start a volunteer position at the local elementary school. It's a partnership between work and school. Every other Friday morning I read to a group of three or four kindergarteners for about half an hour in the cafeteria. This will be fun. I'll report back tomorrow. 7

Maybe I should have looked into something like that before I got involved in what I do?

Then there's the part of working with the munchkins; this will be fun.
airinpie Posted October 12, 2017 Share #6 Posted October 12, 2017 That's awesome. I have been considering one on one mentoring. It's a big commitment and somewhat scary to me.

I'm waiting on a breakthrough with my 16 year old non-verbal autism boy. He is big and strong and I can see he has a lot going on in his head, he just needs to figure out how to untangle the connections in brain.

There's really a lot of teaching moments. I'm learning things about autism I didn't know.

I met this man by “coincidence” when I started talking about the boy I am working with.

donkpow Posted October 12, 2017 Share #13 Posted October 12, 2017 My sister used to volunteer some time teaching tweens art at the local school. During the clay sculpture classes one of boys made a giant penis out of clay. My sister tried to council the boy and ended up reporting him to the administration. It is sad when teachers no longer tolerate penises.

I have seen some of his work out where I kayak along the beach. Someone sculpted a very large erect one and it was standing erect on a big rock.
