Kzoo Posted October 20, 2017 Share #2 Posted October 20, 2017 Yeah, I remember this one time. But I think the bear was stuffed with fluff.

When your people are using bears for fluffers it's time to quit the business.

Wilbur Posted October 20, 2017 Share #6 Posted October 20, 2017 The guy has been with that Grizzly for 14 years. Not in captivity but they are accustomed to each other. There is about a 20 minute clip on YT.

Timothy Treadwell, anyone?
Zephyr Posted October 21, 2017 Share #10 Posted October 21, 2017 I had a 900lbs Polar Bear sit across the road from my house for about an hour once. I went out because some people were around and to let them know. He started towards me and was 32 feet away(I measured my tracks to his after) when I persuaded him to turn and go the other way. Too close. Truth be told, there are unconfirmed reports that I may have peed a little bit. 3

I am thinking its a grizzly as Kodiaks are a little bigger.

Wilbur Posted October 21, 2017 Share #14 Posted October 21, 2017 I don't mind being up close with black bears. Grizzly a lot less so but I hate being near Polars. They are predators and we are tasty.

They are considered different sub-species of brown bear. 12 hours ago, Wilbur said: I don't mind being up close with black bears. Grizzly a lot less so but I hate being near Polars. To me, black bear are a lot more sketchy. I have observed them display stalking type of behavior. All bears are dangerous and you must be wary and respectful. And noisy. Wilbur Posted October 21, 2017 Share #19 Posted October 21, 2017 Meh. Scientists still argue how many subspecies of humans have existed and fuzzy words in descriptors like "currently we believe" don't sell me on their own buying of classifications. Plenty of experience with black, brown and polar bears keeps me firmly planted in my opinions on behaviour and risks.

JerrySTL Posted October 21, 2017 Share #21 Posted October 21, 2017 I once was stuck on a flight from the USA to England sitting next to a guy who was almost larger than that bear and probably smelt worse also.
MickinMD Posted October 21, 2017 Share #22 Posted October 21, 2017 Knowing he had less than a year to live from cancer and knowing he had reached a zone where he was feeling better but which wouldn't last too long, I took my father on a July, 1991 driving trip to Western SD and on to Yellowstone and points in between for a couple weeks. We had a great time. We ran into Wild Burros and Bison in Custer State Park, SD - show below - and also a lot of critters in Yellowstone. The Bison were within 20 feet of him - he's standing behind my car's open door, as I was on the other side, in case we had to duck inside real quick. The Burros were begging for food. We fed them a couple crackers. 1
