Ralphie Posted October 22, 2017 Share #1 Posted October 22, 2017 Oh so good! Hard as a rock, but just a perfect flavour, just the right touch of bite. Empire, sorry, but you're still #2.
Road Runner Posted October 22, 2017 Share #2 Posted October 22, 2017 I've had some apples named "something crisp". I don't think it was crimson though. Anyway, they were extremely hard. I think I had to use a knife instead of biting into them. I prefer something not quite so "crisp".

Honeycrisp are very good too, but not that hard.
Road Runner Posted October 22, 2017 Share #4 Posted October 22, 2017 Apples I buy seem to vary in texture quite a bit. I like a Gala apple, but they are sometimes too soft or mushy. But then I'll buy another bag later on at the same store and they are acceptably crisp.
team scooter Posted October 22, 2017 Share #5 Posted October 22, 2017 A few weeks ago we took the grandkids to the apple orchard. They ran around picking all different kinds of apples and we couldnt keep track of which were which. After sampling all the different varieties, my new favorite is semisweet and has the consistency closer to a pear. Sadly, I have no idea what it is. 1

I think apples get abused by retailers since they store so well, so age is probably the differentiator.

Square Wheels Posted October 22, 2017 Share #10 Posted October 22, 2017 I don't have a favorite anything, I worry too much about the feelings of the ones that aren't designated as a favorite.

Kirby Posted October 23, 2017 Share #12 Posted October 23, 2017 I'm going to have to try them, if my local stores have them.

My BIL went beer shopping with me and he thought it was funny I had so many favourites.
