Ralphie ★ Posted November 15, 2017 Share #1 Posted November 15, 2017 My last two belts have been turkeys! The current one has a buckle that is so concave with sharpish edges that it cuts into me, and I swear it is not overstressed! The previous one had several faults. First, it had the equivalent of clearcoat failure where the finish flaked off. But then the buckle just came off! It was held on with two rivets. And I swear it also was not overstressed! Really! It did last a few years before that catastrophic failure though. I hate bad designs. http://baddesigns.com/
Kirby Posted November 15, 2017 Share #2 Posted November 15, 2017 You'd think the design of a belt would be pretty classic.

I'll have to be more careful when shopping next time. Of course I usually like to grab and go, so deep introspection is not on the agenda.
Popular Post Longjohn ★ Posted November 15, 2017 Popular Post Share #4 Posted November 15, 2017 My son had a new cam belt and serpentine belt installed on his Honda Van in July. Two weeks ago while in Pittsburgh with the twins for a doctor appointment the serpentine belt shredded and the van quit running. You just can't get good belts these days. In his case when they installed the belts they also put new pulleys and bearings. One of the new bearings froze up and that's what caused the trouble. The company that supplied the bearing flew a guy in to investigate. They are going to pay to have a new engine installed. 2 3

The Amish guy that I watched make the holster for my 44 mag. also makes belts. His belts will last a lifetime. 2

Damn thing only lasted 22 years. Or less - I don;t know if it is original equipment or not since I only bought the car in 2006. 1

He needs to find a way to get a free transmission, unless they have improved them from the 1999-2002 models that lasted us 75k miles like clockwork. Van is on its 4th at 290k.

I think the newer ones are probably ok. Even some of the old ones seem to have somehow avoided the problem. The Mrs. really liked the Nissan Rogue we rented recently, so we might have to defect from the CRV she wants.
donkpow Posted November 15, 2017 Share #13 Posted November 15, 2017 I used to wear a basic leather workman's belt all the time. Works good, lasts a long time. If you want a belt that is cheap and lasts a long time in a variety of colors, I have some of these:

MickinMD ★ Posted February 9, 2020 Share #18 Posted February 9, 2020 I hadn't bought any new belts for a while until this thread - I have one good black dress belt and one semi-good black belt for casual wear. So I just ordered from Amazon, after a lot of looking around, checking materials, reviews, etc. an all-leather brown belt, a rachet-buckle all-leather black belt and two woven, stretch belts - one blue, one blue and white. $57.20 total: I didn't want to spend much - I've lost 10 lbs in last 3 months and expect that trend to continue. I hope my impulse buying works out.
