What Are The Editing Rules?

Recommended Posts

It seems like sometimes I can edit a post, and sometimes I can't. I was thinking maybe after someone had quoted the post, it couldn't be edited, but I have seen situations where I can't edit even if no one has replied or quoted yet. Another example is adding a tag after the post is created.

Is there a basic rule on when a post can be edited?

Yes, two hours after you've posted it.  It used to be indefinite, but then some people left the site and decided to delete their posts on the way out, makes a real mess of a thread.  Then we changed it to two days, that didn't seem to help.  It's now two hours and will stay that way.

Seems reasonable enough. Or, at least justified and reasoned through.

Also, SW or any of the mods can edit a post at any time, so if a post is older than two hours and a member really needs to change it for some reason and it doesn't screw up the thread, it can still be edited.  Just PM one of us.

Thom is on a flight of fantasy here again, as if any1 would ever quote him?

No - I was thinking of adding tags to my "cycling" posts. I rarely remember to add one initially.
