Longjohn ★ Posted January 6, 2018 Share #1 Posted January 6, 2018 It’s -3 outside right now and I was feeling kind of warm sitting here drinking coffee and posting. I just looked at the room temperature and it’s 83 degrees. I love wood heat.

sheep_herder ★ Posted January 6, 2018 Share #6 Posted January 6, 2018 65F and we kick it up to 70F if we are warming lambs by the heater vent in the kitchen. We both begin to feel faint if the house is too warm, and this curtails our visiting of others who like warm houses. We go in and out too much to appreciate a 'hot' house.
Longjohn ★ Posted January 6, 2018 Author Share #7 Posted January 6, 2018 I have been burning fresh cut wood that my firewood girl dumped in the driveway. The house is usually in the seventies. For this sub zero weather I brought in old wood out of the shed, it really burns hotter.

roadiejorge Posted January 6, 2018 Share #13 Posted January 6, 2018 Upper 60s. We have steam heat in the building so I seal up the drafty windows and all is well. I leave a few unsealed to let fresh air in as well because it gets really dry, plus circulating air is always nice.
KrAzY Posted January 6, 2018 Share #14 Posted January 6, 2018 It is set and held at 70°F per our electric company. We have the NEST and they are allowed to regulate it during "rush hour" use. They never let it get below 68°F during the summer or above 75°F during the summer.

groupw Posted January 6, 2018 Share #17 Posted January 6, 2018 65 at night, 72 when we are up and at home. The family room where we spend most of our time is usually colder than that due to a poor cold air return system. It would cost thousands to make it better. We didn't use our wood stove for several years because it would affect our youngest daughter's asthma. We just haven't got back in the habit since she moved out. I bet now that she lives in Arizona it won't affect her if we start it again!

ChrisL Posted January 6, 2018 Share #20 Posted January 6, 2018 Dunno, we rarely run the heat or the AC. Currently drinking my coffee with shorts, slippers, T shirt and a light sweatshirt on. Too cold for just a t-shirt but not cold enough for sweatpants. I had my hotel room in Kansas at 72 degrees and was comfy.
petitepedal ★ Posted January 6, 2018 Share #21 Posted January 6, 2018 I have an old honeywell thermostat with a "comfort zone"...I usually keep it just below that...but not during this 12 day cold spell of below zero stuff... I also have 2 big patio doors facing west..it cools off when the sun goes down!!
shootingstar Posted January 6, 2018 Share #22 Posted January 6, 2018 20 degrees C and no lower. I prefer it around 21 degrees C. We are not allowed to go lower, in condo building since some people had it too low and piping burst at very low temperatures. We have central heating. Our heating bill is shared, condo monthly costs.
JerrySTL ★ Posted January 6, 2018 Share #23 Posted January 6, 2018 62°F at night and 68°F during the day. We converted the wood fireplace to gas. Unfortunately it's near the thermostat so when the wife has the fireplace on, the rest of the house gets cold because the thermostat thinks it's more than 68°F therefore the heater doesn't kick on. Further Posted January 6, 2018 Share #28 Posted January 6, 2018 It doesn't make sense that the cold outside would make it feel colder inside, but it seems like that is what has happened. We have been keeping the t'stat up around 68, 70. Expecting a 300 dollar gas bill for this month. And probably 150 for electric. I'm thankful to be able to keep warm. 1

Razors Edge ★ Posted January 6, 2018 Share #30 Posted January 6, 2018 66-68 at the thermostat in the upstairs hallway. That translates to 62-64 in the downstairs living area. I'm fine with keeping it cooler than many folks, but it seems like we are about average for folks here in the Cafe. Tom
BR46 Posted January 6, 2018 Share #31 Posted January 6, 2018 Wo46 and I don't agree on the temperature. 62° when sleeping and when nobody's home 66° when awake. I will sneak the thermostat up to 68 or 69 and she will freak out and turn it down to 65°. When I'm in the garage the thermostat set to 68° to 70°.
MickinMD ★ Posted January 7, 2018 Share #32 Posted January 7, 2018 My hallway thermostat is set at 73F. All of my rooms are slightly cooler than that, with the TV room I virtually live in about the same as the hallway. I do not heat my 2nd floor during the winter and, with rising heat, it stays over 60F. My basement, almost totally below ground level, stays around 65-70F due to all the forced air heat tubes running through it.

Parsnip Totin Jack ★ Posted January 7, 2018 Share #37 Posted January 7, 2018 72 here in the one-bedroom apartment. We closed the curtains over the french doors and use the front door now. The gap under the front door lets cold air in so we have to block that with a wool rug. Utilities are included in the rent.
