Randomguy Posted February 17, 2018 Share #3 Posted February 17, 2018 You guys are so judgey! This appears to be a well thought out and executed solution, I think the engineers of the world are just jealous.

maddmaxx ★ Posted February 17, 2018 Share #5 Posted February 17, 2018 It could have been worse with an incandescent bulb.
Kzoo Posted February 17, 2018 Share #6 Posted February 17, 2018 Is the bulb 18” from the ceiling or side wall? No? What’s the problem? UL approved fixture, UL approved cord/plug set, plugged into a UL approved recept.
team scooter Posted February 17, 2018 Share #7 Posted February 17, 2018 If the light fixture is mounted in a washroom, that outlet should be a GFI.

Razors Edge ★ Posted February 17, 2018 Share #10 Posted February 17, 2018 Seems like a "good enough" solution to me. I'm not sure what the fuss is. Tom

Fortunately it burned through after about a month with no damage. He also wired the entire basement, including washer and dryer, to a light switch at the top of the stairs. You could turn off everything with a flip of a switch. Genius! One little tiny light switch.
Further Posted February 17, 2018 Share #12 Posted February 17, 2018 I found a wall sconce wired with 18 gauge lamp cord ( no ground ) ran inside the wall from an outlet to the fixture ( no box ) I think it had a 60 watt lamp in it.
JerrySTL ★ Posted February 17, 2018 Share #13 Posted February 17, 2018 Strangest thing that I ever saw was a friends house. He bought it new and frequently had problems with electrical appliances going bad. He had the water pipe going into his house burst. The plumber found that the main ground wire was connected to a plastic water pipe! 1

The plumber found that the main ground wire was connected to a plastic water pipe! I've seen this type of thing quite often. Mowers knock off the ground wire and clamp. Water heater pipes are not jumpered before the isolation unions, water meters not bypassed. The first indication I have noticed on this problem is flourescent fixtures burn out.
