pedalphile Posted February 21, 2018 Share #1 Posted February 21, 2018 Is a radio soap opera, quarter of an hour, 6 days a week, on bbc radio 4. I listen to it, an everyday story of country folk. It started in wartime, to spread farming news and god tips, in times of desperate need, and has continued ever since. Does anyone else listen to a soap on the old steam wireless?
Indy Posted February 21, 2018 Share #2 Posted February 21, 2018 So I take it this isn't about bow hunting?

TrentonMakes Posted February 21, 2018 Share #5 Posted February 21, 2018 A friend of mine and I have discussed the song "Sugar, Sugar" in depth. I think it's bubblegum crap and he thinks it's a pop masterpiece.

TrentonMakes Posted February 21, 2018 Share #7 Posted February 21, 2018 but to offer a serious response - no, I don't listen to any serials on the radio. The closest I've come was probably the recurring "Guy Noir" detective show on Prairie Home Companion, a weekly radio variety show hosted by one of those alleged sexual harassers. The whole show was a throwback to the "radio days" and there was definitely a certain charm about it. I listened to it off and on since the late 1980s. I’ve listened to and loved that guy, also on the bbc.
Kzoo Posted February 21, 2018 Share #9 Posted February 21, 2018 Another serious response - no serial programs. I use to listen to some old time radio programs several years ago that were broadcast on Public Radio. The Shadow, The Green Hornet, and sometimes The Lone Ranger. pedalphile Posted February 21, 2018 Author Share #10 Posted February 21, 2018 I think I can remember listening to the Green Hornet as a nipper, more than 50 years ago. We didn’t have a tele in those days.

JerrySTL ★ Posted February 23, 2018 Share #15 Posted February 23, 2018 I listened to it a few times when I lived on your side of the pond, but never got into it. I was a big fan of Radio 4 though.

No, but I listen to something similar. I am a big fan of a lot of the Old Time Radio programs that are found online or via an app. I prefer the "theater of the mind" to a lot of the crap that's on TV nowadays. Give me a good 'Your's Truly Johnny Dollar,' 'Suspense,' or 'Richard Diamond' program and I'm set.
