A vote to determine if a member should be banned?

Maybe we should have regular votes on certain despised members (like me) where a simple majority of the forumites could ban a member from participation.

It would greatly simplify and speed up the current informal practice of trying to drive members away by shunning.  I would vote for this.  :)

I would make a comment (with a picture) about what happens when you put something (or someone) to a vote, but I do not want to be responsible for this getting moved to P&R.

"Make SW Forum Great Again"   We should get hats.

Great.  And here I thought this place was already in the middle of a downer.

A vote by the membership would create a membership divided against itself even if the vote was done in secret. I think either a small, perhaps secret names, advisory committee appointed by Square Wheels is the only group way of doing it and having the site's owner do it alone has been workable so far: I'd prefer to keep it that way.

I agree, SW is the man.  HE alone should choose.  Unless of course he is going to ban me, at which point we need to rally the masses for a huge protest. Huge.  Probably the biggest protest in the history of protests.

Geez, I did it again.  What the hell is the matter with me today.

Could it be the dead, drowned corpses you run across?

A popular vote is only appreciated by people who make a meal of stirring up trouble.  There are a series of threads here today that are most destructive in nature.  IMO everyone should go take a ride on a bike.

Ok, Max, I know your wearing your mod pants now -- but clearly you were able to determine that my comment above was 'facetious' in nature?

I like your idea of everyone going for a bike ride.  Sound advice for anything really.

...both our avatars are already wearing hats. Just sayin'. (My avatar's hat is more stylish, BTW):)

I have a kayaking group and never had to ban anyone until this morning. Overnight while I was sleeping someone posted some homemade porn and when they were not immediately banned and deleted several others joined in. I deleted all of their posts and banned them all, then I went back and changed the way people could join the group. I seriously considered just deleting the whole group. I have to hand it to Square wheels, he’s been doing this for a long time, it’s a thankless job.

...when I first went on the internet, I just naturally assumed this was all because it was mostly men.

Then, on the other bicycle forum that must not be named, one of my contacts there, a lesbian, referred me to her knitting and needlework forum for some classic examples of blowups and flame wars.

She eventually decided I was too old and creepy to continue correspondence.

My wife must like old scary men. When an old creepy guy was persuing her she looked for the biggest, scariest looking guy she could find and stuck to him like glue. It kept the creepy guy away but she has been stuck with me for over 42 years.

...it was four or six years ago.  I forget her username over there, but she was pretty out about it. You'd know if you talked very much with her.

Lived up there in eastern Oregon or eastern Washington in one of the college towns and had an IGH bicycle that was always giving her trouble with the hub.

Are you "asking for a friend" ?:)
