Kudos

This place must be bouncing around the back of my head. Just after dinner, out of the blue, it occurred to me this is like an alien race in a scifi book I really liked.

They lived maybe a thousand years, but had reproductive rates similar to ours. So the mortality rate among the young is utterly mind boggling.

Which isn't, strictly speaking, relevant. They don't use money, they run on kudos. They do things to impress, you could call them style points. The constant undercurrent of approval seeking here must have reminded me of that.

Now it's going to bug me until I can figure out which book it was. If I remember, I'll post it here, it's a good read.
