I just made that up.

Thermal cycling? Nobody goes thermal cycling in the summer, it’s close to 100 degrees.

i wonder if that part was made by Mavic? Their stuff in known to crack.

BTW, it's the thermostat housing, plastic.  Lovely plastic.  Brittle plastic.

But I've never seen one fail so spectacularly.  I just hope the missing piece is on the street somewhere.  Bizarre, though, that it waited until I shut off the engine to explode.  The afterrun pump should be lower pressure
