12string Posted July 3, 2018 Share #1 Posted July 3, 2018 This is what left me stranded in Fishtown. This is crammed in, no way a rock or something could reach in there.

A very astute observation. 12string, perhaps you should consider fixing it so you can get home from the brothel Fishtown.
jsharr ★ Posted July 3, 2018 Share #5 Posted July 3, 2018 The granularity of the metal would indicate improper thermal cycling led to stress risers that led to failure I just made that up. 1

Thermal cycling? Nobody goes thermal cycling in the summer, it’s close to 100 degrees. i wonder if that part was made by Mavic? Their stuff in known to crack. 1 1

There's a widget in there, but that's not broke so I should fix it.

jsharr ★ Posted July 3, 2018 Share #12 Posted July 3, 2018 If your water pump failed in Fishtown, the first thing I would suspect was scale build up due to hard water.
12string Posted July 3, 2018 Author Share #13 Posted July 3, 2018 But it's a WATER doohickey. If I were going to fill it in Fishtown I would have needed to install a wudder doohickey.
12string Posted July 3, 2018 Author Share #14 Posted July 3, 2018 BTW, it's the thermostat housing, plastic. Lovely plastic. Brittle plastic. But I've never seen one fail so spectacularly. I just hope the missing piece is on the street somewhere. Bizarre, though, that it waited until I shut off the engine to explode. The afterrun pump should be lower pressure
