My brother-in-law does business with them all the time. For some reason they are really good at shoeing horses and rebuilding old beam wood barns. Being into horses and going to auctions all the time, he knows a lot of them. Some of the amish have money, he made the mistake of getting into a bidding war over a hay field with one once, more often than not, you are not going to win and they are paying in cash. Where I grew up, it was the Mennonites. Used to be an old joke about the Mennonite that had agreed to buy a 100 acre farm for $400,000.00. On closing day, the buyer showed up with a milk can full of cash. After emptying the can and carefully counting the money, they found he was $1,000.00 short. He smacked his forehead and said, "looks like we grabbed the wrong milk can" 2 1
