tybeegb Posted July 6, 2018 Share #1 Posted July 6, 2018 When the bank lets you know that your "existing credit card may have been part of a data compromise at a merchant where you do business", and sends you a new card. Then it takes me over an hour to get all of the automatic payments I have set up to use the new card that will no longer work on a set date. One good thing is that after repeating the new number so many times I have it committed to memory. ?

Longjohn Posted July 6, 2018 Share #3 Posted July 6, 2018 It's the easy way to get off the hook on auto renewal stuff that you want to get out of. Did you ever try to cancel auto renewal?
bikeman564™ Posted July 6, 2018 Share #4 Posted July 6, 2018 This happened to me once. I had the card since 1996, and in 2015 IIRC it was used at a place that was compromised, but my account was not. I had the number memorized which made online ordering easy.

JerrySTL Posted July 6, 2018 Share #6 Posted July 6, 2018 I use to change credit card companies every few years to get better rates. Not so much anymore as it's a pain the change all the accounts.
Square Wheels Posted July 6, 2018 Share #7 Posted July 6, 2018 Bank of America seems to have a knack for doing this to me just before I take a trip. I got a new one a couple of weeks ago. I am not going to activate, just cancel it. I'm switching to using an Amazon credit card. Much better benefits.
