Dottleshead Posted July 8, 2018 Share #1 Posted July 8, 2018 The former Tragically Hip band sang a song off their Road Apples album called Fiddler's Green. I happen to know there is a road near you called that. Is this what the Hip were singing about? Or do you think it was the legendary afterlife? Does it have any significant inside meaning other than the literal interpretations?
Wilbur Posted July 8, 2018 Share #2 Posted July 8, 2018 A sad song. Written for Downey's nephew who died of a heart ailment. I thought it had more to do with moving into the "afterlife". I think the Fiddlers Green part is just poetic licence.

Or is it ritzy and glamorous?

It is the most scenic and picturesque undulating country roads I have ever seen. Beautiful brick farm houses, red barns, cornfields and blue skies. Stunning this time of year. 1

When I worked at Hamilton airport, I drove it every day. Often thought of buying a farm there it was so pretty.

Longjohn Posted July 9, 2018 Share #8 Posted July 9, 2018 My address for three years was Fiddler’s Green Road, Grand Valley, Pa. I didn’t live in the valley but clear at the top of the hill.
Tizeye Posted July 9, 2018 Share #9 Posted July 9, 2018 Fiddlers Green is a relatively popular Irish Pub locally in Winter Park. No reference to the song though...just folklore in the history. https://fiddlersgreen.pub/about/history/

Without it, this thread would not have been created.
