sheep_herder ★ Posted July 12, 2018 Share #1 Posted July 12, 2018 I am thinking about buying another one, as the old one gave up the ship several years ago and began to crack. I want a simple one like I had before with a slotted top and without accelerators, etc. to help the pop. I don't want to have to purchase the popper and then supplies. I just want the popper. Any suggestions?
Dirtyhip Posted July 12, 2018 Share #2 Posted July 12, 2018 Cast iron pot? It makes the best popcorn.
sheep_herder ★ Posted July 12, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted July 12, 2018 I know that?, but hate to heat up the kitchen with the stove, when inside temperatures are already 85+F. We don't run air conditioning, just a whole house fan that we use after it cools off in the evening and before it warms up in the morning.
Further Posted July 12, 2018 Share #4 Posted July 12, 2018 Are you buying a microwave ? Just to cook popcorn ?
sheep_herder ★ Posted July 12, 2018 Author Share #5 Posted July 12, 2018 We've had a microwave since I moved to Montana in 1988. I moved here alone and thought it would be a good time to learn to use the microwave for cooking different items. It work well, as I did not go hungry. I use to do the same thing when loading new software, as I waited until I had a project to work with and learn the software. By the end of the project, I was good to go.
Kirby Posted July 12, 2018 Share #6 Posted July 12, 2018 I don't have one, but my sister has one - I think it's Hotpop? It's basically just a silicone bowl I think, but her kids always used it.
Square Wheels Posted July 12, 2018 Share #7 Posted July 12, 2018 We have this, I love it. No oil, just kernels and a microwave.
UglyBob Posted July 12, 2018 Share #8 Posted July 12, 2018 $13.00 at Walmart. We have one in the house and one in the motor home. The one in the house has probably been used well over a thousand times and doesn't show any wear.
Ralphie ★ Posted July 12, 2018 Share #9 Posted July 12, 2018 I would love to stick it to the man and stop buying that bagged popcorn, but I have cut way back on popcorn lately. My wife is the main consumer of it.
Indy Posted July 12, 2018 Share #10 Posted July 12, 2018 Microwave popcorn, I'll just stick with the bags. For any other popcorn, the Stir Crazy comes out.
jsharr ★ Posted July 12, 2018 Share #11 Posted July 12, 2018 I use an air popper, but that defeats your not wanting to warm up the house. I cannot stand bagged, as it leaves a film of gook inside my mouth

sheep_herder ★ Posted July 12, 2018 Author Share #13 Posted July 12, 2018 Remember the time when folks used brown paper bags from the grocery store to pop corn in the microwave? That came to a screeching halt, when bags were made from recycled material that contained a bit of metal. Use them and you might have burned pop corn and a ruined microwave. Those were exciting times. I like to use something that is reusable, so we save a few trees and don't fill up the landfill. Totally off the subject, but I refuse to use the big plastic fly catchers, that once full, you take to the land fill. I'd rather use sticky strips to catch the little pests. That is all. Thanks for the suggestions.

I pour melted butter over mine after air popping. I imagine you could do the same with microwave corn. We used to have a microwave popper, but it cracked. I glad to see more on the market that don't use accelerators, etc. that need to be replaced over time.

a bunch of numbers Posted July 12, 2018 Share #17 Posted July 12, 2018 I never knew microwave poppers existed. I don't typically buy or eat popcorn.
