THis was before personal computers existed. It was such a headache...the whiteouts for mistakes... Never again, typewriters. I was in university during late 1970's early 1980's. I actually think the mechanics of correcting mistakes via typewriter, interfered with the speed of my creative thought. So methinks the next younger generations for those rare few, who like typewriters..sneak off to their computers to do their edits.

donkpow Posted August 12, 2018 Share #3 Posted August 12, 2018 I heard a line in passing with a movie on TV last night. The gist of the comment was that typesetters had high degree of knowledge because they had to read all the type they were setting for print. Airehead Posted August 12, 2018 Share #4 Posted August 12, 2018 I used an electric type writer that had a correction ribbon. We thought it was cutting edge.

I went to Kitchener-Waterloo's oldest high school. It had an attic where I found a pile of high school photos from 1920's-1950's.
Razors Edge ★ Posted August 12, 2018 Share #7 Posted August 12, 2018 I'm guessing it is mostly "show", and no real "go". Trying to be quirky or unique in some way. If they successfully write a 500 page novel on one, then I will believe they are sincere. Tom
sheep_herder ★ Posted August 12, 2018 Share #8 Posted August 12, 2018 I typed the rough draft of my Ph.D. dissertation in 1974 on a manual typewriter. Our daughter had become ill, and this allowed me to stay at home with her.
