ChrisL Posted August 19, 2018 Share #1 Posted August 19, 2018 I was cleaning my garage and found this tucked away in a toolbox I no longer used. Anyone remember these? Bonus points if you can guess what year I purchased it.
bikeman564™ Posted August 19, 2018 Share #2 Posted August 19, 2018 Park crank extractor. I have one and use it. Mine is not in that good shape. I've beat the handle with a hammer. The rubber coating is gone.

I don't even ride a bike with a square taper crank/BB but my old school steel bike I bought it for is still up in the rafters.
Popular Post Wilbur ★ Posted August 20, 2018 Popular Post Share #6 Posted August 20, 2018 I name that tool, “Kevin”. I have never met a Kevin that was not a tool. 1 1
donkpow Posted August 20, 2018 Share #7 Posted August 20, 2018 Along these lines, have you got one of these little things? It is an official Shimano tool.

TrentonMakes Posted August 20, 2018 Share #10 Posted August 20, 2018 I have one of those crank extractors. Given how many times I have used it (once?) it was probably a dumb purchase.
Rattlecan ★ Posted August 20, 2018 Share #11 Posted August 20, 2018 I work on lots of bikes with square tapers. Heck, most of my own fleet still has them, so yeah, I have more than one of those tools. Also have one that's modified for Octalink and Isis. Looking closer at your photo, I realize it has the extractor threads for Stronglight cranks on the back side. I have separate extractors for Stronglight and TA.

That's what the little tool in the picture I presented is for. AFAIK, the Octalink hollow spindle. You insert the adapter into the hollow spindle and use your ST taper tool as you normally would. I debated buying a complete tool for my Octalink setup or just getting the adapter. I got the adapter for around $7. Okay, I didn't save a tremendous amount but every little bit helps feed my crack habit.
