Ralphie ★ Posted September 9, 2018 Share #1 Posted September 9, 2018 So whaddya think? I disagree with Aretha being the top dog. But I like how Sam Cooke scored so high! I think I'd put Sarah Vaughan or Nat King Cole at #1. https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-lists/100-greatest-singers-of-all-time-147019/

Ralphie ★ Posted September 9, 2018 Author Share #3 Posted September 9, 2018 Neither Nat or Sarah or Sade is even on it! Sort of a bogus exercise, just too subjective of a ... subject.

Square Wheels Posted September 10, 2018 Share #12 Posted September 10, 2018 I didn't look through all of it, even less impressed when Robert Plant wasn't in the top 5.
MickinMD ★ Posted September 10, 2018 Share #13 Posted September 10, 2018 I didn't expect to see a serious list with names like Luciano Pavorotti, Maria Callas, or Charlote Church, but no Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Johnny Mathis, Loretta Lynn, Woody Guthrie, Hank Williams Sr., Diana Ross, Linda Ronstadt, Edith Piaf, Rosemary Clooney or Peggy Lee? A lot of those mentioned in the list did not have the record sales, fan base, or vocal quality of those I listed and their popularity was short-lived. Bonnie Raitt #50? It's a heartache! Not much of a list.
Parr8hed Posted September 10, 2018 Share #14 Posted September 10, 2018 My thoughts.... Don Henley should have been much higher. I loved Van Morrison being as high as he was. One of my all time favs. Good nod to James Taylor. But how you have a list of the 100 best "singers" that includes Kurt Cobain and not George Strait is far beyond me. JerrySTL ★ Posted September 10, 2018 Share #16 Posted September 10, 2018 Good to see Dusty Springfield in there. There's a movie coming out soon about her. Bob Dylan as a singer? A great songwriter but not much on vocals IMHO. Did I miss Bill Withers on the list? I thought that he'd make it.

Mr. Silly Posted September 10, 2018 Share #18 Posted September 10, 2018 The list includes autotuned Christina Agular but no silky voiced Mel Torme. BS! BS I SAY!
