jsharr ★ Posted September 18, 2018 Share #1 Posted September 18, 2018 There will be no Wilson Rams 8th grade B team football game tonight. The other team did not have enough players to have and A and B team. So, with the forfeit, they are off to a 4 and 0 start and have not been scored on yet. Dottleshead ★ Posted September 18, 2018 Share #3 Posted September 18, 2018 It's only a matter of time before the lawsuits shut the game down. I suspect soccer will be next inline unless the outlaw 'heading'.

When watching, I like heading during things like corner kicks, but think it is annoying outside the penalty area. Tom

MickinMD ★ Posted September 19, 2018 Share #10 Posted September 19, 2018 There are a lot of high schools, even in very strong football-oriented states like Pennsylvania, that are ending their football programs. I have mixed feelings about it. It's tremendous fun but it's been shown to be dangerous to the brain over early or prolonged involvement in tackle programs. Four years ago, my nephew Ryan decided to abandon Fall soccer and play rec-league football when he was in the 8th grade. He tried out, with no previous experience, and made an excellent team only because the coach had been his basketball team's coach, knew Ryan had been an MVP soccer player, and he needed a kicker. I volunteered to take him to his practices, got involved in coaching (I played 1 year in high school) and became the PA announcer. Check out the pics and vids below and you'll get an idea of how much fun it was a pleasure to watch Ryan (99, below) blossom into an award-winning defensive lineman and a tight end who made his high school JV team as a defensive lineman and place kicker (#72, bottom) the next year. Still, we weren't too disappointed when he decided to give up football after the 9th grade:
