Popular Post ChrisL Posted September 25, 2018 Popular Post Share #1 Posted September 25, 2018 So I blew out of my convention at 3 PM, kitted up and hauled ass to Blue Diamond. Got there around 4 PM and there was a dude pulling a bike off a rack. I said hello and asked him some questions about the trail. He said can you do about 12 miles in 2 hours. Yup. Then come ride with me! We did 12 miles of rocky technical single track that freaking worked me! It was about 98 degrees when we started (but it's a dry heat...) and around 86 when we finished just before sunset. I did a slow speed tip over once when I took a bad line on a technical rocky climb and had to walk down a couple of sketchy descents and dabbed numerous times. Oh and the rock strikes, more than I can remember. My cranks, oh my cranks... I packed a water bottle and my camelback and drained them both. The scenery was stunning and William my tour guide was a really cool dude. Did I ever tell you the mountain bike community is just freaking awesome!?!?!? i didn't want to hold up my tour guide so didn't stop for too many pictures but did take a few. There is no way I could have figured that ride out on my own and probably would have done a 6 mile out & back had he not shown me. There were numerous trail splits and I wouldn't have had a clue where to go. I don't even know what trails we rode, I was just following his wheel. At one point he said did you see the burros? Nope. Really, they were like 10' off the trail!!! The rock gardens were just gnarly and took all of my focus & energy. I took those at about 1/2 way and the sun had just ducked behind those mountains so the last half of the ride was in the shade. My wife won't ride off road and since her crash a few years ago won't ride if I don't go with her (although she insists she will she always backs out if I don't go with her). @Dirtyhip Is better at expressing the stoke of mountain biking but it's real. Maybe never go back to the road. The west is calling you. I can hop on a trail just one block from my apt. There is so much singletrack at my fingertips. It is awesome.
